2nd grader suspended for drawing stick figure firing a gun
DENNIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. - A second-grader's drawing of a stick figure shooting a gun earned him a one-day school suspension.
Kyle Walker, 7, was suspended last week for violating Dennis Township Primary School's zero-tolerance policy on guns, the boy's mother, Shirley McDevitt, told The Press of Atlantic City.
Kyle gave the picture to another child on the school bus, and that child's parents complained about it to school officials, McDevitt said. Her son told her the drawing was of a water gun, she said.
A photocopy of the picture provided by McDevitt showed two stick figures with one pointing a crude-looking gun at the other, the newspaper said. What appeared to be the word quot;mequot; was written above the shooter, with another name scribbled above the other figure.
School officials declined to comment Friday. A message left at the superintendent's office Saturday was not returned.
Kyle drew other pictures, including a skateboarder, King Tut, a ghost, a tree and a Cyclops, the newspaper reported.

Aren't they taking the 'zero tolerance' gun policy a little too extreme?
Isnt that a little extreme? I mean a second grader doesnt even have the body weight to fire a handgun, let alone an assault rifle.
Zero tolerance means zero tolerance.

Zero tolerance means zero tolerance. If we allowed such transgressions, it'd be 2/5 tolerance. Unacceptable.
The kid is a natural artist
How fucking stupid is this? He's 7, aren't people supposed to be helping the child understand the difference between drawing a gun and planning to use one? I guess the school system is getting pretty retarded. I used to draw power rangers back in the day, with guns etc, pictures of james bond and stuff. I never got shit on, and I don't own a gun or plan to. It's only a matter of time until the more intelligent generation of people take over...
I've seen worse than that at my Catholic elementary school and the kid didn't even get a detention.
Stupid rules..............Thats why im an Anarchist.
His a 7 yr. old kid for cryin out loud! He can't get let alone afford a firearm! His only a kid, he'll learn more about whats right and whats wrong when he gets older.
Talk about over reacting...

I lolled at you so hard.
WOAH, that was close. They just caught the boy in the nick of time
That stick figure could've snapped any second
Seven years old and already he gets this on his permanent record. The fuck is this shit? Back in my day, we only got a scolding, maybe not even that when/if we drew a gun.
Yeah, because suspending him is really going to stop him from shooting up the school.
At the school I went to for K-2nd grade, there was a group of kids... me and a few boys and like one other girl that would always draw guns and swords and people fighting and monsters and stuff... we came up with an eyeball monster...
Not this crap again...
We all drew guns and tanks and stuff when we were in grade school.
That's ridiculous, I used to draw little war zones on my paper...My teacher was actually entertained by it.
Lol at my school last year we had maps in our planners and made imaginary armies with tanks and stuff.
*Sigh* Over-reaction from the authorities again. |
